"Love, love, love... Love is all you need." Well, in some cases, love is something that you cannot have. Those famous Beatles lyrics describe the perfect life of having love, which falls under the category of The American Dream. But what if love was something that you couldn't have? in the sense that saying, you were or are, in love with someone, but something, weather its parents, other spouse, or even lifestyle, prevents you from loving that person? In Jay Gatsby's case, He is completely incapable to love Daisy. Now don't get him, or me for that matter, wrong. Daisy is absolutely in love with Jay. However, when Jay disappeared for awhile (little did we know he was busy inheriting all his money), Daisy went off and fell in love out dearest Tom Buchanan. Now- When Jay had returned, it had already been too late. Daisy was now married, and couldn't not turn back time. There was rumors of her being Catholic, and that's why she couldn't divorce Tom, or that she was just plain petrified of Tom to even tell him that she never loved him. But the real reason was that Daisy, in fact, loved Tom and still does. This might be a little confusing so let me clarify. Daisy loves tom, but she also loves Gatsby! Loved Gatsby so much to even lie to Tom and say she never loved him, and the next minute later, she took it back and said she DID love Tom! See how annoying she is? Gatsby had to learn to realize that Daisy was just never going to come back to him. After waiting almost five years to be with Daisy, get married, start a family, and live back in Gatsby's mansion, he finds out she is married, and has a child with some other man. What a bummer! Can you imagine how Gatsby felt?!
I know exactly how it feels when it comes to unrequited love. My parents hated my current boyfriend for the longest time, even though we were going out for almost eleven months. But the brighter side is that when i asked, my parent's were willing to I've him another chance, and they finally realized how serious we were. How would you react if your love was married and taken? Have you ever had unrequited love?
